Ready Made Garments is abbreviated to RMG is a major foreign currency earning sector of Bangladesh. Garments are basic need of human beings. People like to get more up to date garments in their daily needs. For luxurious life leading dress plays an important role, to make anybody looks great it needs to be wear a good dress. Garments are the finished product of Textile industries. After completing a series of steps like spinning, knitting/weaving, dyeing and garments making from textile fiber a finished garments become ready to use. Now RMG sector is top most in Bangladesh GDP. It has created employment and earn maximum foreign currency. Thousands of different sizes garments industry has been established in various areas in Bangladesh.
 

History of RGM in Bangladesh
After country partition from India most of the Textile Industry was grown in west Pakistan (now pakistan) to develop the economy of the west Pakistan. The industrialists were transferred products from east to west Pakistan also. When Bangladesh gained independence in 1971, Bangladesh government took decision to make textile sector nationalize and as a result of it Bangladesh Textile Mills Corporation(BTMC) was established. In 1978 Garments industry was established in Bangladesh with only nine enterprises. It was established under numerous obstacles like low productivity in the labor force, lack of planning, indiscipline, lack of accountability, and poor machine maintenance and operation resulted in a lack of profits. Day by day this sector started to overcome all the barriers and afterwards machinery is relatively inexpensive and easily available. In addition, garment producers can operate in smaller premises than those required by most of the processes in the textile industry. On top of this, Bangladesh has an abundant supply of cheap labor consisting mostly of women for whom this is one of the most suitable forms of employment. The rapid growth of this sector is primarily responsible for available labors of low wages. Now Bangladesh is the second Garments exporting country throughout the world. About 20 billion USD become earn Bangladesh from this sector. Now a days thousands of export oriented Garments factory has been established at Dhaka, Gazipur, Narayongonj, Norshingdi, Mymensing and Manikgonj in Bangladesh. About 75% of total revenue of Bangladesh now come from this sector. After making this sector as private, it becomes easy to gain this situation. Government of Bangladesh is now looking after this sector very much, from the sense of more production gov has made a distinct Textile University and four another Textile Engineering Colleges where students get chance to have a bachelor degree on Textile Engineering. Expectations that, RMG sector will help to develop Bangladeshi economy in the near future.



Major Apparels
Bangladesh has become famous for exporting knit wears. Knitting industry is now also a rapid growing industry in Bangladesh. Knitted goods are now most preferable to export to the textile industries. Among knitted fabrics the top ten categories we mention bellow-

  • Women's or girls' blouses, shirts & shirt-blouses, knitted or crocheted, of cotton.
  • Women's or girls' trousers, bib & brace overalls, breeches & shorts, knitted or crocheted, of cotton.
  • Men's or boys' trousers, bib & brace overalls, breeches & shorts, knitted or crocheted, of cotton.

Except these Bangladesh also exports various garments made from woven fabrics. Some non-woven and braid fabric being exported to many countries.
